Often, girls new to transitioning overlook how to sleep correctly. If you’re not careful, the way you sleep can completely erase all the hard work you put into styling. There are two ideal ways to sleep with your hair: wrapped pineapple and sleep bonnet.
The wrapped pineapple involves tying your hair in a very loose ponytail. Then, position it so that it’s as close to your forehead as possible. Make sure it isn’t too tight, if it is, you will end up pulling your roots and causing them to look flat and limp. Once your pineapple (ponytail) is in a comfortable position, wrap a scarf around your head and make sure the majority of your hair is covered by it. Tie the loose ends of the scarf together at the bottom. You might need to double-knot it to make sure it doesn’t undo itself.
The sleep bonnet is a much simpler process. Start with tying your hair in a loose pineapple or bun and then put the bonnet on top.
Personally, I prefer to use a sleep bonnet. I used to do a wrapped pineapple, but was never happy with the results due to my hair pulling and feeling uncomfortable. I now use a sleep bonnet and love it! I’ve been able to push my wash days out by a couple extra days.
Based on my experience, I recommend using a sleep bonnet.
