There are so many guidelines when it comes to having curly hair! It can be hard to keep track and easy to forget some along the way. On top of that, the complexity of curls makes it easy to make a mistake without knowing it. Below are 7 common mistakes that are killing your curls.
1. Not protecting your hair at night
Protecting your hair at night is extremely important to ensure that your hard work on washday lasts. You also need to ensure that you are protecting it effectively. If your bonnet/scarf is falling off at night, then you aren’t fully protecting your hair. Adjustable bonnets are always a great option.
2. Washing your hair too often
With curls looking their best when they’re fresh, it can be tempting to jump in the shower and wash your hair more often. This is extremely harmful because each time you wet your hair, it swells up. When water is in contact with the hair excessively, it can cause hygral fatigue. You need toggle your hair a chance for its natural oils to replenish and coat the hair.
3. Wrong brush at the wrong time
Detangling brushes need to be used in the shower or while the hair is still soaking wet. Styling brushes can be used outside of the shower when your hair is either soaking wet or reasonably damp. Never use a brush on dry hair.

It’s always important to follow the instructions on bottles of products. Most conditioners say to wash thoroughly. This is because they are often made with heavy and thick ingredients. 6. Constrictive hairstyles
Although sleek hairstyles can be fun and look amazing, they can cost you your curls by stretching out your roots. This ultimately causes limpness, lack of volume, flat roots and stretched out curls.
7. Empty products
Many curly girls opt out of silicones, sulfates, artificial fragrances, drying alcohols, mineral oils, artificial colours, etc. Although this is great, it is also important to make sure that the products you use add value to your hair. Being silicone and sulfate free is a good start, but it’s best to buy products that will add nourishment through healthy and rich ingredients.
